#AtoZChallenge: Kanan
Kanan Jarrus
Not every Jedi perished in Order 66. Kanan Jarrus survived the Emperor’s purge, going underground for years and hiding the truth about who he really was. To keep his past a secret, Kanan carried a blaster — an uncommon practice for a Jedi — and used a lightsaber that had to be assembled.
When first introduced, Kanan, did not capture my attention, like Hera, Chopper and Zeb did. It took awhile for me to warm up to this charater. The prequel novel Star Wars A New Dawn, where Kanan meets Hera and watching the short Machine in the Ghost, where he interacts with both Hera and Chopper, gave me a new understanding of this character and his motivations. By the time I watched the Star Wars Rebels premiere movie, Spark of Rebellion, I became fully invested in Kanan and his hero’s journey.
