#WalkMS Frankenmuth 2015

20130511-215157.jpg

Today, I participated in the WalkMS event in Frankenmuth, MI that I mentioned in a post a few weeks back. This is my fourth year participating in this event. As I wrote on my walker identification card, I walked to support all those who are suffer from Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

I again joined my friend Karasten, who suffers from MS, and her team, Karasten’s Crew.

This year both my husband, Michael, who also suffers from MS and my younger sister, Sheila, who suffers from NF (Neurofibromatosis) joined us for this event.

The weather today was very hot and humid.  Because of how hot and humid it was, it took about 2 hours for our team to complete the just over 3 mile walk.  Some of the team stopped for ice cream during the walk, I wish I thought of doing that!

We did complete the Walk and we have the buttons to prove it!
My sister summed up this experience with this comment on a friend’s Facebook page:

“Went on a walk today. A walk to raise awareness and a cure for MS. It was a nice walk for a good cause.”

I want to thank everyone who supported us by either spreading the word about this event or by donating through my personal page.  Especially author Natacha Guyot, who helped me reach my goal!

I really, really appreciate this support from the bottom of my heart!

#AtoZChallenge: Library Week

This week is National Library Week, which raises awareness of what libraries offer patrons other than books. The American Library Association, which create this event gives a great description of what libraries have to offer.

Today’s libraries are more than just books. Increasingly, they are places of creativity where people can meet to share a hobby, use a 3D printer, edit a video, or use software to record their own music. Libraries offer access to the tools and technology essential to the economic and cultural lives of their communities.

I have always supported libraries and those that work there, especially during National Library Week.   Today, we celebrate Library Workers Day.  This it is a great opportunity to nominate your favorite Library Worker or stop by your local library and just say thank you for all they do for you and the community.

So right now I want to take this opportunity to thanks all of the Librarians and the Library staff from Libraries not only here in the United States, but around the world!

#AtoZChallenge: Join me…

For Star Wars fans the phrase “Join Me” is used by both Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine to entice Luke Skywalker to turn to the ‘Dark Side’ of the Force.  Today, I am using this phrase, not to entice you to the ‘Dark Side’, but to ask you to ask you to ‘join me’ in helping to raise awareness and funds for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis (MS).   Many of you may be wondering just what is MS?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that creates a neurological condition that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS includes the brain, the spinal cord, and the optic nerves, and it’s surrounded by a fatty tissue called myelin that protects the nerve fibers and helps them conduct electrical impulses. MS is NOT fully understood and is a highly unpredictable disorder that can cause a variety of different symptoms, which for many, can flare-up and then subside over the course of days, months, or even years. There are four recognized types of multiple sclerosis, ranging from those that cause periodic relapses or “attacks” that subsequently ‘remit’ or go away to types that progressively worsen over time.

While MS is not contagious, its causes are not yet fully understood and researchers continue to search for answers daily.

Here are some Facts About MS that are known:

*Every hour, someone is newly diagnosed with MS.
*More than 2.5 million people worldwide live with this unpredictable disease.
*MS is the most common neurological disease leading to disability in young adults.
*Many Celebrities have MS including icons such as Annette Funicello, who passed away in 2013.
*Check out the latest statistics on MS here

My husband, Michael, suffers the relapsing remitting type of MS, which can cause a variety of symptoms that can flare-up and then subside over the course of days, months, or Even years. Some of the more common ones that he suffers from includes: *Fatigue *Difficulty in walking *Vision problems *Emotional changes *Problems with memory, attention, and problem-solving *Bladder/bowel dysfunction *Dizziness and vertigo *Numbness/pain.  I watch him every day struggle to have a normal life dispite what this disease is doing to him.

I might not be able to snap my fingers or use The Force to help my husband or anyone else that suffers from this life changing disease.  However, I can help raise funds, promote awareness and encouraging others to learn more about this disease and those who suffer from it.

Today, I have signed up again to participate in the Walk MS event in Frankenmuth, MI on May 9, 2015.  This event’s purpose is to help raise funds and promote awareness of this life changing disease.  Participating in this event is important to me because many people suffer, including my husband, symptoms of this disease on a daily basis! Therefore, I encourage you to ‘join me’ in this effort.

This is a private meeting, Gavin said. His arms hung at his sides casually, but everything about his stance was ready to move as he stared at Cerberus and his henchmen. There were ten of them, not including the dogs bristling at the ends of their chain leashes. Dear God, what kind of dogs are those? They were massive, standing only a few inches shy of her mediocre five feet, and covered with bushy fur. Maybe they were bears, not dogs at all. Lana glanced warily from Cerberus to Mónica, Donatien, and BélaMónica had locked up the artillery, and Lana noticed the appearance of a holster holding a gun at her hip. Donatien and Béla were now on each side of her and Gavin, and she got the uneasy sensation they were for her, not Gavin. Meanwhile Blair, Russ, and Johnson were all starting to reach for the heat they were packing.

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt my invitation was just misplaced. Cerberus beady eyes moved over to Lanas friends. It looks like I was mistaken.

You were.

Gavins tone never wavered as Cerberus strutted forward. Lana shied away behind Gavin, biting down on her lipCerberus didnt miss the motion. Immediately his eyes flashed to her. He was a lone wolf who scented blood.

I know you. Youre Vics piece of ass. His eyes had a cruel glimmer. If youre here, he wont be. Thats rather disappointing.

It was a slap to her already wavering confidence and Lana physically winced at the comment. All it took was that momentary distraction. She didnt see him pull the gun out; she only heard the safety clicking off.

Now, this is going to be nice and easy from here on out. You three he waved the muzzle in Blairs direction will load all of that into my car. I will pay you for the merchandise.Cerberus was mindful enough not to point the gun at Gavin. And you . . . He eyed her with hunger. You can get in my car, dear.

Id rather shit in my hands and clap, she said.

Support Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Fundraising

20140422-223115.jpg

I want to help raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society because my husband suffers from this disease. Therefore, I have signed up for a third year ear in a row to participate in the Walk MS in Frankenmuth, MI. Participating in this event is important to me because many people suffer, including my husband, symptoms of this disease on a daily basis!

For those who are not familiar with this disease, you may be wondering just what is MS?

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease that creates a neurological condition that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The Importance of Long-Term Treatment

*At the present, approved long-term treatments are only available for individuals with relapsing forms of MS
*10 disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) are now approved for relapsing forms of MS (as of March 2013)
*DMTs may: reduce the number and severity of symptom flare-ups; delay disease progression; reduce the number of active lesions; and potentially extend one’s lifespan
*DMTs have reduced or delayed the number of individuals who advance from relapsing-remitting MS to secondary-progressive MS

Story of A Fangirl: My Mom

Story of A Fangirl: My Mom

Today, I wanted to tell you about my Mom, a fangirl who recently lost her battle with ovarian cancer. My Mom was a fangirl and an inspiration to me. She was one of the reasons that I was able to declare myself an everyday fangirl! She was a fangirl of many fandoms, some that were different from mine.  However, she made sure that she showed her love of the Fandoms every day!

Today, I am going to share with you some of the fandoms that My Mom loved that were different from me and how I tried to help share these fandoms with her.

Quilting

20130908-075752.jpg
My mother loved to quilt and she was so good that she won awards for her work. She even joined a local quilt guild to share her experiences with others. The quilt above is one she made to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. I helped support this fandom of hers by buying quilting materials, books and magazines whenever I could.

Detroit Tigers

20130908-075932.jpg

My Mom loved going to see the Detroit Tigers. She would watch them on TV and go to a few games every year. She was very proud of our home team even when they were not even close to a pennant race! I helped support this fandom of hers by going with her to a few games and by talking with her about the games and the players whenever I could.

Wizard of Oz

20130906-000032.jpg
Her favorite film. We watched it every Thanksgiving as a family when it aired on TV. She also collected lots of memorabilia related to this movie. I was able to help her continue adding to this collection after I reached adulthood.
