Sailor Moon R The Movie in Select Theaters Starting 1/19/17
Sailor Moon comes to the big screen in her first dazzling movie! Uncut and for the first time in theaters. Join Sailor Moon on an adventure to save not only the world, but also her true love! This limited engagement also includes the North American debut of the original theatrical short, Make Up! Sailor Guardians and exclusive extras. A special bonus gift will be given to ticket holders while supplies last.
Looking at the list of theaters, this Fangirl is disappointed that only one theater, The Maple Theater in Bloomfield Township, MI, will be showing this in my area. However, the good news is that there will be two showings, one of 1/19/17 and the other on 1/23/17, both at 7PM. Tickets are not available to buy for these showings yet. Hopefully, I will be able to buy tickets to one of these. Otherwise, I will have to wait until this is available on BluRay or via streaming.
You can find more details on other locations in the U.S. and to buy tickets here.
Like most fans of Sailor Moon from the 1990’s, I became acquainted with this series while watching the episodes on Cartoon Network. However, my introduction was slightly different than many of the fans at that time.
The reason is that the very first episode I saw, Last Resort, takes place late in the first season and not at the beginning.
This episode is not the most ideal place to start this series because after many major events and reveals. Therefore, after all these years, I wondered what aspects of this story that caught my attention and had me seeking more.
After rewatching the original English dub of this episode that was produced by DiC, I identified some of the aspects that caught my attention back then.
Serena’s interaction with her family showed just how important they were to her despite how they might not get along sometimes.
So what show or story were you introduced to that was not right at the beginning?
In honor of Valentine’s Day, I am sharing some of my favorite love stories.
Lisa’s and Rick’s love story in Robotech
This love story between Lisa and Rick shows how love can bloom and mature over time. You can watch these two fall in love, but you can see them get married and, in the comics and novels, see how they handle married life along with their adult responsibilities as commanders in times of war and peace.
Cordiella’s and Aral’s love story in the Vorkosigan Saga
This is another love story born during a time of war and matures over time, especially seeing their love continue through the eyes of those around them.
River Song’s and The Doctor’s love story in Doctor Who
This is a love story that is indeed out of time and space. This love story is so complicated and so confusing at times that it hard to know at which point you are within the story. However, though it all you can see how much love there is between these two characters once everything is put together.
I am a Sailor Moon fan from way back when this series aired on Cartoon Network. I have collected all of the officially released versions of the series including the DiC dub VHS and DVD version, to the Pioneer DVDs and finally to the ADV subtitled DVD sets.
However, I was not able to view or buy, through any of these offical versions, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars. The only version available in the USA was a bootleg, like this one pictured below, which included poor picture quality and poorly translated subtitles.
Thanks to VIZ Media, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars has FINALLY been officially released here in the United States, legally and available for me to watch anytime and anywhere! This makes me a very, very happy Sailor Moon Fangirl!
These never before officially released episodes started streaming on Hulu and Neon Alley December 14th with what is considered to be the ending of the Dream Arc, which shows how Sailor Moon transformed into her true form, Eternal Sailor Moon.
However, this week starts the arc that many fans thought would never come, the arrival of the Sailor Star Lights and the official start of season 5 of Sailor Moon!
I am so looking forward to watching two episodes of these every week and of course will be waiting for the Dub version and the BluRay/DVD release as well.
Are you a fan of Sailor Moon? Have you been looking forward to the official release of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars as I have?
Doctor Who on DisneyXD
I am really happy that Doctor Who is available on DisneyXD, especially these episodes starring David Tennet as the 10th Doctor. Anyone who has not experienced Doctor Who and wants to know what all the fuss is about should take this opportunity to watch.
Star Wars Rebels on DisneyXD
Finally, Season 2 finally premieres with the Siege of Lothal! I can now talk about what I saw back in April. Especially, my thoughts on the inclusion of Ahsoka and Darth Vader into the series and how the crew of The Ghost reacts to the inclusion of these characters.
Well it is a new year and there are many things this Everyday Fangirl is looking forward to including…
Movies and Television Series
My husband and I cannot believe that this series is only six episodes. However, we plan on watching each one the week it airs!
I love all the characters, especially Hera and Sabine. I am very curious to see how their adventures tie into the entire Star Wars Saga, especially during the last half of Season 1 and of course the beginning of Season 2.
You are probably not surprised by this one. However, you probably did not know that I plan to take a day off from work to see this, right?
Sailor Moon Crystal Black Moon Arc and Sailor Moon R & S with the new English dub
I cannot wait to see this arc in all it’s glory. And of course the trailer for Sailor Moon Crystal gave us a glimpse of how glorious this arc looks! In reference to the new dub for Sailor Moon R and S is who will voice Chibiusa and the Outer Sailor Scouts, especially Sailor Pluto!
Doctor Who Series 9
I am excited to see more adventures with Clara and The Twelfth Doctor!
Books, Manga and Comics
Doctor Who Comics by Titan
I did not pick up any of the new Doctor Who comics published by Titan in 2014. Therefore, in 2015 I have every issue released so far and new issues to look forward to. I am especially excited for the just announced comic stories with additional adventures with Rose Tyler, Captain Jack Harkness and The Ninth Doctor!
A book with Asajj Ventress and the unorthodox Jedi Quinlan Vos in it? This has the makings of one crazy adventure story!
Ultimate Star Wars by JW Rinzler
I just love Star War Reference books that covers many aspects of the saga. However, I usually do not look forward to them before they come out. This one is an exception because portions of the book are written by fellow Fangirl and friend Tricia Barr. I just had to place my pre-order on Barnes and Noble for this!
Peace Talks by Jim Butcher, Book 16 of the Dresden Files
I have no information on what the plot is or what the cover looks like, but every Harry Dresden audiobook is a MUST buy for my husband and I as soon as it is released!
This is the ultimate Star Wars fan experience and I cannot wait to walk the Dealer Room, go to panels, meet fellow Fangirls and doing the Fangirl flail with them and of course watch the live performance of Smuggler’s Bounty
Motor City Comic Con
This is my neighborhood comic con and has always been a good time and I am looking forward to see which guests I will meet this year!
So what are you looking forward to in 2015? Did any of yours match mine or is there something on yours that I should add?
In honor of #WorldCatDay today, I am sharing my list of favorite cats from anime stories.
Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service
The Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro
Kyo Sohma in his cat form, from Fruits Basket
So how are you celebrating World Cat Day?
What cats are on your list?
As I mentioned before, I love Sailor Moon, and have been spending time lately re-watching this series on HuluPlus!
Sailor Moon Crystal Summary from HuluPlus
Based on Naoko Takeuchi’s legendary manga series, Sailor Moon Crystal retells the story of Sailor Moon as she searches for her fellow Sailor Guardians and the Legendary Silver Crystal to stop the dark forces of Queen Beryl.
I watched the first episode three times already, once this morning and twice this afternoon. Overall, I believe it is a wonderful start to a great series and I cannot wait to see the next episode in two weeks! However, there are a few observations that I want to mention here as a long time fan of the original anime series.
Observation 1: The art in Sailor Moon Crystal is very beautiful, like a painting that would hang in a gallery somewhere and not something that I would be watching on my 56″ HD TV or my tablet. Below are just a few examples from this first episode of the beautiful art created for this series:
Observation 2: Some of the characters, especially secondary characters, have slight differences in Sailor Moon Crystal compared to the original anime. For instance, Shingo, has the same attitude as in the original Sailor Moon anime, but in Sailor Moon Crystal he has blond hair, like his sister Usagi, while it was light brown in the original anime as seen below.
Observation 3: Background music and effects are toned down in Sailor Moon Crystal.
The background music in this episode of Sailor Moon Crystal is much more subtle than it ever was in the original anime. In the original anime, the background music was used as cues to the characters and what was going on in the story. In Sailor Moon Crystal, it is part of the beautiful background and is not really noticeable, except during the transformation sequence.
Observation 4: Opening Music
Although I loved both the original Japanese version along with the North American version of the original’s Opening Theme, I really love the new opening music by “Momoiro Clover Z”. I cannot wait to add this theme to my music collection!
Observation 5: The eye catches for the commercial breaks are just gorgeous when compared to the original anime! I plan on making this my new tablet background!
Observation 6 (and the one that bothered me the most for some reason): In Sailor Moon Crystal, Usagi’s room seems very empty when compared to the original anime. There seems to be some accents in her room and a few things on her desk, but not much stuff. In the original anime, her room contained lots of stuff including a Chicken Clock, a bookshelf full of Manga and other nic knacks scattered across the room.
So, have you seen Sailor Moon Crystal yet? If so, then what observations do you have? Inquiring minds want to know!
Three things made me a happy fangirl today:
1) Star Wars Episode VII started shooting today
Therefore, based on these three it was a good day to be an everyday fangirl!
So, what are you happy about today?
